Out & About
I enjoy hosting live events and leading conversations in the community about storytelling, sex and bodies, audio production and podcasting.
Events & Panels
I enjoy hosting conversations in front of live audiences. Some of my favorite recent events include: a conversation with romance writer Kennedy Ryan at Flyleaf Books; a live event about family secrets at Motorco; and a live event about Purity Culture in collaboration with The Monti at the Hayti Heritage Center.
I have participated in and moderated panels on topics ranging from narrative podcasting to news consumption in the pandemic to Asian Americans in Journalism. I’ve also moderated conversations at film festivals and conferences.
Talks
I love opportunities to reflect on creativity, interviewing and having hard conversations.
I shared the story behind Embodied and how I relate to the word “Dare” with Creative Mornings RDU; I spoke about the history and impact of the “Explicit” podcast rating at Podcast Movement’s 2020 conference; and I delivered the commencement address for the UNC Women’s and Gender Studies department in 2021.
Teaching & Mentorship
I love nerding out about audio, interviewing, podcasting and the future of journalism!
I’ve enjoyed co-teaching a podcasting class at Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies and guest lecturing in multiple journalism classes at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Journalism. I also regularly advise aspiring radio producers and podcasters on audio production and how to launch new projects. In 2024-2025 I’m participating in the Duke Arts Studio Mentorship Program.
